Twist And Shout: Mount Air Sets World Record
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- The folks in Mount Airy are twisting in the wind no more.
Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records announced recently that on Sept. 9, the community set a world record for the largest version of doing the "twist."
Organizers of the event said that 1,706 people participated in the event, sponsored by WSYD-AM. Participants danced for five minutes to "The Twist" and "Twist and Shout."
Mount Airy bested Glendale, Calif., which had set the mark of 1,674 people in 2010.
